The Flames football nation and the Liberty community on Monday received a piece of news that was not at all unexpected - Head Coach Hugh Freeze has signed with Auburn University to become the Tigers’ next head coach.

In his four years at the helm of the Flames, Freeze brought the team successfully into the FBS, the top tier of NCAA football. He compiled a record of 34-15, including eight or more wins every year and a bowl berth all four years. This year, he led the Flames to a signature win at home against BYU and another victory on the road at SEC team Arkansas.

Commenting on the news, Liberty President Jerry Prevo stated, “There could be no better compliment to our university than that the best place Auburn could come to find its next coach was Liberty University.”

LU’s Director of Athletics, Ian McCaw, remarked, “We are grateful to Coach Freeze for all he has done for Liberty Football and the University over the past four seasons. We wish Hugh, Jill, and their daughters God’s richest blessings as they embark on a new journey.”

Liberty appointed Josh Aldridge as interim head coach while the search for the school’s tenth head coach get s underway. Aldridge has worked under Freeze as the Flames’ Co-Defensive Coordinator/ and Linebackers Coach.
