The Altavista varsity baseball team wrapped up their season this past week on the diamond. The Colonels fell in a pair of close one-run contests to close out their 2023 campaign as they look to build on their growing program in the future with a crop of young and talented underclassmen heading forward.
The Colonels first traveled to Ringgold and lost to the Wildcats 5-4 and then finished off their schedule with a 4-3 loss to Nelson at home last Friday, effectively eliminating them from postseason contention.
Against Nelson in the finale, the Colonels battled down to their last strike, showing the resilience they have displayed all year. Senior starting pitcher Nehki Robinson (5 IP, 1 ER, 7 K’s) was excellent in his final turn on the mound for the Colonels while leading the way at the plate was Xavier Brumfield (1-3, R, RBI) who led off the game with a solo home run in the loss.
Altavista wraps their season with a 7-13 record overall, improving vastly from a 2-17 season a year ago while finishing in 8th place in the region standings, just missing out on the postseason.
