James William Hendrickson

James William Hendrickson, 74, of 1315 Fourth Street, Altavista went to be with the Lord Monday, March 13, 2023. He was the husband of Connie Hall Hendrickson.

Jim was born June 15, 1948, in Norwich, New York, a son of the late Julius Legrand Hendrickson and Mary Walton Hendrickson. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, and had formerly served as a Deacon and was a member of the Men’s Group at Lynch Station Baptist Church. He selflessly served his country as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Sperry and USS Krishna during the Vietnam War; he was also a member of the American Legion Post 16, the VFW Post 4165, as well as the VVA Chapter #196. During his working years, he was employed as a custodian for a local school system in New York and most recently as a cashier at Walmart in Altavista.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Mike Hendrickson and Richard Hendrickson; his sister, Helen Anthony; his niece, Laurie; his best friend, Wilton Wood; as well as his beloved church family.

Jim is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hendrickson.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2023, at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia by Chaplain Will Strong, Jr., where military honors will be rendered by American Legion Post 16.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
