Kenneth Lee Payne, 80, of Altavista died Wednesday, May 12, 2021.  He was the husband of Mary Ella Newman Payne for fifty-eight years.

He was born November 2, 1940 in Campbell County, a son of the late Clayton Board Payne and Lonell Poe Payne.  He was retired from BGF Industries with forty-three years of service and attended Lambs United Methodist Church.  Kenneth was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching NASCAR.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dennis Payne and his wife, Toni of Long Island and Todd Payne and his wife, Angela of Gladys; two brothers, Roy Payne of Motley and Lester Payne of Danville; and one grandchild, Chris Payne.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Lee Payne, Jr. and Kelvin Lynn Payne; four brothers, Bobby, Herbert, Clifford, and Willard Payne; and two sisters, Juliette Dalton and Josephine Walters.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Lambs United Methodist Church by the Rev. Yusang Chung and Randolph Coffey.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church and other times at the residence of his son, Dennis Payne, 3661 Moons Rd., Long Island.
