George Allen “Buck” Cox, Sr.

George Allen “Buck” Cox, Sr., 89, of Lynch Station died Saturday, May 6, 2023 at his home. He was the husband of the late Sue Wolfe Cox for 64 years.

He was born August 4, 1933 in Altavista, a son of the late Thomas Cox and Grace Carr Cox. He enjoyed spending time at the lake, fishing, collecting coins and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by two sons, George Allen Cox, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of Altavista and Thomas H. Cox “Buck” and his wife, Lisa of Nelson County; two daughters, Ellyn Cox (Donald) of Hurt and Delene C. Andrews and her husband, Ronnie of Forest; eleven grandchildren, Mack Starkey, Jr., Margot Kachelmier and her husband, Scotty, Joshua Starkey (Ayla), Mitchell Cox and his wife, Andi, Hudnall Cox (Clara Beth), Morgan Andrews, Makinley Andrews, Novice Cox, Brantz Cox, Holly Elliott (Kyle), and Kyle Moore (Mo); six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; also surviving is his beloved dog, Hank.

He was preceded in death by a son, Zaccary S. Cox; a grandson, George Allen Cox, III; three brothers, Frank, Marvin and Archie Cox; and four sisters, Ruby Perry, Tommy Wilmoth, Florence Walters and Frances Reynolds.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Jeffrey Chapman with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.

The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista.
