Larry William Clay, 81, of 4389 Gladys Road, Altavista died Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at his home. He was the husband of Annie Mae Bruffy Clay for 58 years.
He was born May 11, 1940 in Halifax County, a son of the late Thornton William Clay and Delora Chaney Jones Clay. He was a long-time member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. Larry was involved in all activities of the church including mowing the grass. He was a retired employee of B&W.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Bobby William Clay of Hurt; one brother, Kenneth Clay and his wife, Peggy of Albany, NY; one sister, Pat Hammock and her husband, Grady of Long Island; one sister-in-law, Mary Robertson of Hurt; one grandson, William Hogan Clay of Hurt; three special aunts, Shirley Chapman, Laura Dudley and Joyce Bolen all of Altavista; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 23, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Matthew Gaston with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., Thursday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
