Colonels drop two on the diamond

Altavista’s Colby Haskins, #13, steals second base.

The Altavista varsity baseball team looked to get back in the win column last week but first fell on the road to Nelson 15-4 this past Wednesday. Nelson would use two big innings to do their damage as they pounded out 12 hits in the game and took advantage of seven Colonels errors en route to the victory. Altavista was led offensively by Ben Tweedy (2-2, R, RBI), Logan Nichols (2-3, R) and Nehki Robinson (2-2, 2 RBIs).

This past Friday evening the Colonels welcomed undefeated Appomattox to town and fell to the Raiders 15-2 in high school baseball action. The Raiders (12-0) scored early and often, racking up 15 total hits in the win. The Colonels were led at the plate by senior catcher Ben Tweedy (1-2, HR) who launched a mammoth home run in the 1st inning and Evan Scruggs (1-2, RBI) who had the only two hits in the game for Altavista (1-13).

Altavista travels to face rival Gretna on Wednesday and then host William Campbell on Friday with both games slated for 5:30pm.
