George Sandridge

The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations Appomattox Field Office has announced that it has arrested George Sandridge, former employee at Altavista on Track (AoT), on two counts of embezzlement. The arrest took place on Monday, May 15.

According to an article in the Altavista Journal on February 2, 2021, Sandridge, 24, became the Main Street Coordinator for AoT on February 1 of that year. He had worked as an intern for the Town of Altavista from January through June of 2020 and returned to the town offices in October 2020 as Community Coordinator before being promoted to Main Street Coordinator.

Corinne Geller, public relations director for the Virginia State Police, reported that “the charges were handed up by a grand jury as a result of an investigation initiated by state police in February 2022. The investigation was into allegations of mismanagement of funds by Sandridge while an employee with the 501(c)3 nonprofit Altavista On Track.”

According to an article from February 2022 in the Altavista Journal, the Altavista Police Department was made aware of financial discrepancies in AoT's books and because both the police department and AoT are under the same town government, the APD called in the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations to handle the case.

The Virginia State Police also noted that Sandridge, whose current address is in Winston-Salem, NC, turned himself in on Monday (May 15) and was processed at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Amherst County.
