Pittsylvania County Sports Hall of Fame ceremony

Donnie Vaden graduated from Dan River High School and went on to play baseball for the Lynchburg Hornets. He then went to play one season in Professional Baseball in Texas and following his playing days returned to teach in Pittsylvania County and began his refereeing career in county little league softball/baseball/basketball, and then VHSL to college basketball. 

In 1988, he was hired as an NBA referee and officiated, scouted and supervised officials for 30 years. According to supervisor Tim Dudley, he refereed when Michael Jordan first entered the basketball scene.
