Sports returned Thursday night to the Seminole District after a long wait due to the pandemic. The Brookville Bees boys’ basketball team traveled to Rustburg to open the season up against the Devils, a young team with only 3 returning players.
Things are a little different at games due to COVID-19. There is no jump ball to start the game and balls are wiped off during every timeout and quarter. Few people besides players and coaches are allowed in the gym.
The night started rough with a lot of defense, missed opportunities and clangs off the boards. Everyone was rusty, but the players were excited to finally be back on the court. The game scoreless for the first five minutes, but everyone eventually settled in and Brookville took a 6-5 lead. Going into the half it was all tied up at 17 apiece.
Brookville broke away in the third quarter with a 12-2 run. The Bees led by as much as 15 points at times, and Rustburg couldn’t close the gap by less than 10 points.
Brookville walked away with the win, 46-35.
