Altavista teens embark on mission trip to Costa Rica

Kris Schultz (left) and Luke Dollyhite will be representing their church youth group on a mission work trip to Costa Rica. They depart today.

Two Altavista teens, Kris Schultz and Luke Dollyhite, are leaving today, Dec. 31, on their second missions trip to Costa Rica. “They will be building a house for a family and adding a bathroom onto a church,” reported Schultz’s mother, Kim Schultz.

The two are members of the New Prospect Baptist Church (Hurt) Youth Group. They will be undertaking the trip together with a group from Temple Christian School (Madison Heights), “with a mission program called Joshua’s Expedition,” she added.

Schultz is currently a senior at Altavista High School. Dollyhite is a 2021 graduate of Altavista High School and now attends CVCC.

“They did many fundraisers to be able to attend,” explained Mrs. Schultz. “They sold refreshments at a movie night in town, [held] a bake sale, and ran concessions at athletic events. They both also received donations from family, community members, and church members. They are very thankful for all of the support,” she noted.
