The Virginia Cavaliers would hold off in state foe Old Dominion for a 28-17 come from behind victory Saturday night in Charlottesville to improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2004. The Monarchs however, would jump out to a 17-0 first half lead behind the stellar play of quarterback Stone Smartt, the Hoos would close the gap 17-7 right before halftime after a Bryce Perkins touchdown run. The UVA defense would dominate the second half as linebacker Zane Zandier would return an interception 22 yards for a TD to make it 17-14 midway through the 3rd quarter. Linebacker Charles Snowden was a one man wrecking crew against ODU, as he totaled 15 tackles, 3.5 for loss and two sacks, as he was named National Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts. The #18 Cavaliers are back in action on Saturday in a clash at #10 Notre Dame, kickoff is set for 3:30pm.
The Liberty Flames improved to 2-2 with an emphatic 62-27 win over Hampton this past Saturday in Lynchburg. LU quarterback Buckshot Calvert threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns, both to wide receiver Antonio Gandey-Golden while running back Brandon Robinson ran for two scores of his own to lead the offensive attack. The Flames host New Mexico on Saturday at 6pm. Virginia Tech was idle this past week, they take on Duke Friday night at 7pm in Blacksburg.
