The Virginia Tech Hokies held off a furious rally to defeat rival Miami 42-35 on the road last Friday night in ACC action. The Hokies would race out to a 28-0 first half lead which saw the Hokies defense force five Hurricane turnovers. Miami would have two chances in the closing seconds to tie or win from the Tech ten yard line but Bud Foster’s defense would hold behind two big pass break ups by safety Reggie Floyd and another stellar performance from linebacker Rayshard Ashby, who finished with 11 tackles and a sack on the night. Backup quarterback Hendon Hooker led the offense with three touchdowns through the air, all to tight end Dalton Keane, Hooker also led the way ron the ground with 76 yards and a score. The Hokies will host Rhode Island on Saturday at Lane Stadium, kickoff is at 4pm.
The Liberty Flames improved to 4-2 on the season with a big 20-13 road win over New Mexico State this past Saturday. Running back Joshua Mack led the Flames offensive attack with 113 yards rushing and a TD while the defense was solid all evening forcing three Aggie turnovers and four sacks. The Flames have their bye week and return to the field next Saturday night in Lynchburg against Maine, kickoff is slated for 6pm.
The Lynch Station Lizards youth football teams return home this Saturday to take on Amherst, games begin at 10am at English Stadium in Altavista.
