Lady Colonels split results on volleyball court

The Altavista varsity girls’ volleyball team won one and lost two in their recent matches. On October 8, the Lady Colonels picked up their first Dogwood District win of the season on the road in Naruna at cross-county rivals William Campbell, winning 3 sets to 0 over the Lady Generals {25-13, 25-16, 25-15}.

Then on October 15, the Altavista girls hosted Appomattox County, falling to the Lady Raiders 3-0. On Monday, the Lady Colonels made another road trip, this time to Nelson County and the northern reaches of the district, where they lost to the Lady Governors in straight sets in Lovingston.

In the home game against Appomattox, the Lady Colonels kept it close, losing two sets by only two points each {23-25, 24-26, 17-25}. Head Coach Debra Spencer noted that her team is working hard and making progress. They make several good runs of play, but they were unable to sustain it to pick up a win. With several new and inexperienced players—including all the hitters—they are still learning and growing as a team.
