When local Subway® restaurants asked which youth sports coach best represented the positive on, and off-the-field values that would forever shape local youth – one baseball coach stood out.
On July 9, surrounded by his smiling team and parents, Chris Perdue of The Yard Dawgs was awarded the title of the 2019 Subway Standout Coach, a Subway Coach’s Set consisting of a carry bag, clipboard, lanyard and whistle set, a $500 Subway Gift Card and a catered team meal for his dedication to his young athletes.
Perdue, who has been a head coach for 12 years, is no stranger to coaching. Before taking over his own teams, he coached with his father, who was himself a coach for 30 years. Working full time for Encore Capitol for the past 16 years, Perdue says that coaching is not about winning, but rather, making a difference in the lives of team members he coaches.
“Watching these kids grow and develop, and knowing that I am playing a role in their lives, is one of the most rewarding parts about being a volunteer coach,” says Perdue. “Seeing them become outstanding young men is what this is all about.”
