Altavista boys soccer makes history

The unprecedented momentum gained by Altavista’s varsity soccer team was halted on June 4 with a heartbreaking loss to the Rappahannock Raiders at a showdown in Warsaw, Virginia. The 2019 VHSL State Tournament Quarterfi-nal contest marked the first-ever appearance by the Colonels and to get that far was, in itself, an outstanding accomplish-ment.The Altavista Colonels represented Region 1B as the runner-up, having lost to Stonewall Jack-son the previous Friday, but still allowing them to join the elite 8 and enter the next step of the tour-nament facing Rappah-annock, the champions from Region 1A.At the beginning of the first half of play, Rappahannock scored and the mighty Colonels answered back within 10 minutes or so in an exciting play by Isaac Quishpe. At half-time, the score was 4-1 with the Colo-nels fighting to get back into scoring territory.
