Thelma Osborne “Nannie” Pippin, age 96 of Gretna died Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
Born June 2, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Wade Osborne and Alease Adkins Osborne. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, George Nelson Pippin Sr., two brothers, Archie Osborne and Marvin “Pete” Osborne; four sisters, Alma Johnson, Hazel Hearl, Geraldine “Jean” Godfrey, and Mazie Beckham; and a son-in-law, Paul W. Irby. Mrs. Pippin was the oldest member of Sycamore Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU, she also served as Treasurer, Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, and Choir member for many years. She was a home maker and a second mother to all of the neighborhood children. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, watching basketball, and taking care of baby calves.
She is survived by two sons, George “Sonny” Pippin, Jr., and wife, Kathy, of Gretna, and Donald Pippin of Danville; three daughters, Peggy Dalton and husband, George, of Gretna, Brenda Irby of Gretna, and Judy Bruce and husband, Eddie, of Gretna; one brother, Abe Osborne and wife, Vera of Rochester, NY; two sisters-in-law, Jane Osborne of Danville and Clara Jane Osborne of Gretna; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Sycamore Baptist Church by Rev. Ian Rigney, Rev. Heath Lloyd, and Rev. Gary Phillips. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
