Jesse William “Bill” James, 78, of 497 Castle Craig Drive, Evington passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, July 3, 2019.
He was born April 20, 1941 in Florence, SC, a son of the late Hugh Marion James and Geneva Pickeral Henderson
Bill loved football from a young age and was a star player for his high school team, The Altavista Colonels. He went on to play while in college at Ferrum and East Tennessee State University. He was retired from B&W after many years of service as a quality control manager. He enjoyed bee keeping, woodworking, fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his family. Jesse was a loyal friend to many.
He is survived by one daughter, Cheryl James of Evington; one son, William James of Evington and their mother Shirley James of Evington; one sister, Carmen Bowry of Sandston; one precious grandson, Ryder Chatting “Lil’ Bit” and his father Troy Chatting; a grandson at heart, Dakota L Towler; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Lyric Chatting.
A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista, by the Rev. Dwight “Dee” Weaver, Jr. Interment to followed in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family received friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., Monday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
