Lois Dalton “Jean” Grubbs, age 86 of Hurt died Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at her residence.
Born October 15, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Finney Dalton and Cora Lee Myers Dalton. She was predeceased by her husband, Raleigh James “Jack” Grubbs; two brothers, Howard Dalton and Edward Lee Dalton; and five sisters, Orva Walker, Mae Wood, Eleanor “Tinker” Scruggs, Amy Dove, and Vernelle Henderson. Mrs. Grubbs was a member of Motley United Methodist Church and was a retired accounts receivable bookkeeper with Schrader-Bridgeport. She cared for everyone; and she enjoyed going to basketball games, and going to the YMCA pool with her friend, Susie, and doing water aerobics.
She is survived by one daughter, Martha East and husband, John East, Jr. of Hurt; one sister, Isabelle Simpson of Noblesville, IN; two grandchildren, Jonathan East and wife, Jessica, of Hurt, and Jacob East of Manteo, NC; and one great-grandchild, Remington East.
Funeral services were conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019, at Motley United Methodist Church by Pastor Steve Morris and Ray Eure. Burial followed in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family received friends from 6 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2019, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times were at her residence.
