Services for Joel Hershel Minnis, President of Cook and Minnis Funeral Home, Inc, will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Crossroads Baptist Church, 22 Crossroad Lane, Evington, VA. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Viewing at other times are as follows, Thursday, January 23, 2020, from 12 until 5 p.m., and Friday, January 24, 2020 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Chapel of Cook and Minnis Funeral Home, 608 Main Street. Family visitation will be held Friday January 24, 2020 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 7056 Leesville Road, Lynch Station, VA.
Jean Falls Richardson
Jean Falls Richardson, age 71 of Altavista died Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Autumn Care Nursing and Rehab of Altavista.
Born October 7, 1948, in Gretna, she was a daughter of the late Hartford Jasper Falls and Helen Henderson Falls. She was predeceased by her husband, David Lee Richardson Sr., four brothers, Joseph Falls, Melvin Falls, Boyd Falls, James Falls; and sisters, Lucille Crews, Geneva Dalton. Mrs. Richardson was a home maker; and enjoyed watching TV and listening to music.
She is survived by two sons, David L. Richardson and wife, Joy, of Altavista, and Melvin Smith of Altavista; three daughters, Ann Richardson of Gretna, Connie Wyatt and husband, Justin, of Dry Fork and Tammy Richardson; three brothers, Edward Falls of Gretna, William Falls and wife, Betty, of Latta, SC, and George Falls of Gretna; and two sisters, Frances Walker of Halifax, and Elsie Rowland of Gretna; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren
Graveside services was conducted 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Gretna Burial Park by Rev. Lynn Marstin.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service from 2 to 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday January 21, 2020, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

Mrs. Josephine Payne
Mrs. Josephine Payne Walters, wife of the late Clovis “Toby” Walters, passed away, Tuesday, January 14, 2020, with her family by her side. She was born in Campbell County on May 6, 1936, to the late Clayton and Lonell Poe Payne. Mrs. Walters is survived by daughters, Liz Piasecki, Brenda Knudson and Debra Walters; brothers Kenneth Payne (Pat), Roy Payne (Sheila) and Lester Payne (Beth); granddaughter, Michelle Sandifer (Robere); great-grandchild, Jameson Sandifer, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Herbert Payne, Bobby Payne, Clifford Payne, Willard Payne and Juliet Dalton. Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of Virginia-Southside, Inc. Services will be private.
