Five hundred-acre solar farm coming to Gladys

Construction is expected to start on a 500-acre solar power farm in the Gladys community starting in 2021, after Campbell County supervisors gave their OK this week.

GLADYS — The Campbell County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a fourth solar farm project in Campbell County. it is expected to go on 500 acres spread across a 1,000-acre site off Brookneal Highway in the Gladys community. Officials say it could provide 180 full-time jobs during construction, starting in 2021.

Campbell County Community Development Director Paul Harvey acknowledged Thursday that there had been some concerns from the planning commission about the proximity of the solar farm to the Brookneal-Campbell County County Airport, but a glare study shows there shouldn't be any issues.

He said a final study will be conducted to double-check the study’s finding.

Harvey said it takes about a year after project approval to start seeing construction on solar farm projects.
