Starting Tuesday, April 23, the English Park playground in Altavista will be closed for upgrades that include a splash pad. This is just the beginning because a replacement and redesign of the existing playground will follow under the English Park Improvement Park plan.

There will be new play areas for ages 2-5 and 5-12. A lawn area with a shade structure will be included plus a 4,000 square foot splash pad with 31 spray features. There will be little water waste since the water will be recirculated in a 3,000 gallon holding tank. The closing for the work will take around three months.

Altavista’s total “Parks and Trails Master Plan,” will update and modernize amenities for the whole area.

Other town parks including Shreve Park, Avondale Drive, Bedford Avenue and the Leonard Coleman Memorial Park will be unaffected and are ready for fun.
