Since the National Weather Service has declared Pittsylvania County to be under “abnormally dry conditions,” a ban on open burning was effective as of September 24 and will remain in effect until a significant amount of rainfall decreases fire risk.

This includes but is not limited to burning leaves, brush and other vegetation. A violation of the burn ban is a Class I misdemeanor and carries a sentence of the possibility of confinement in jail for not more than 12 months and a fine of not more than $2,500 or both.
