November 5 promises to be an exciting day at the polls in the Town of Hurt when four candidates vie for three seats on Hurt Town Council.
Gary Hodnett, who was appointed to the seat (vacated by Randy Doss) a few months ago will be the only candidate running for the seat which has a year left on it.
Shirley Barksdale-Hill was appointed to serve in Jeff Saunders' vacant seat until the election when she hopes to claim the remaining three years.
A third seat vacated by Norman Bivens when he relocated will also be at stake.
Also running for election are Lester Worley, Sr. and Jeff Bowling.
Now that Shirley Barksdale-Hill has experience being on council, she shares that the most difficult part of serving has been the challenge of having enough time to work on some of the projects and ideas such as an Emergency Preparedness Plan for the Town of Hurt, which was badly needed when the town was hit by the May 31 storm that damaged 14 homes in Hurt. " We hope to have our first draft, then a meeting with community participation very soon," she explains.
