Campbell County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to follow up on information and possible leads in the November 25 shooting on/around River Bend Road, Altavista, where a man was shot with his body later found on private property in Pittsylvania County. “We have no further information at this time and no arrests for murder have been made,” said Campbell County Sheriff’s Office  Investigator Stuart Herndon on Tuesday. 

On Monday, November 25, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office received information about a possible shooting on River Bend Road in Altavista. The report indicated that a male subject was shot during a dispute; however, the alleged victim’s condition and whereabouts were unknown at the time the information was received. Investigators conducted efforts to locate the alleged victim and check his welfare.

As the preliminary investigation continued, information was provided that led to the location of the victim, identified as 26-year-old Christopher James Tench of Lynchburg. He was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. The body was recovered and transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke.

“This is an ongoing homicide Investigation,” said Herndon.
