Work will start early in January on Altavista’s newest eatery, the construction manager for the franchise company said last week.

Brian Pardue, construction manager for NPC International, said work on Pizza Hut will start around Jan. 6, with the restaurant opening in late February.

The restaurant will be located in a suite in an existing building at the Altavista Commons shopping center on Clarion Road. Pardue said work will include renovating the space and bringing in equipment.

Pizza Hut will offer delivery and carryout, but no dining-in service. The menu will feature pizza, pasta and wings.

Pardue said the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

“We’re looking forward to doing business with the town of Altavista.”

Pardue said NPC International, based in Pittsburg, Kan., had been focusing on small town growth the last couple of years. He said the company has the most Pizza Huts in the United States, with close to 1,400 restaurants.

He said the Altavista restaurant will have 10-12 employees.

Pizza Hut was founded in June 1958 by Dan and Frank Carney in Wichita, Kan, according to wikipedia.org. There are more than 11,100 Pizza Huts in the world, including more than 6,000 in the United States. The restaurant company employs more than 160,000.

Besides Pizza Hut, a Taco Bell is expected to open at the shopping center in 2014.
