AEDA enhancing quality of place, new director introduced.

The Altavista Economic Development Association (AEDA) met on November 26 with Chair Bill Gillespie presiding.

At this regular monthly meeting, the new Community Development Director Sharon Williams was introduced and the Economic Development Strategic Plan was updated.

Members of the AEDA focused on “enhancing the quality of place,” according to the objectives of the strategic plan.

The plan summarizes a key focus: “to build out entertainment and recreational amenities that support family-friendly activities, encourage visitation to Altavista, and add to the town’s character.” Specific goals for quarter one of 2020 are to “identify a downtown site near English Park for development as a local and regional eatery” and to “prepare a comprehensive list of desired uses and events for the Booker Building and determine whether desired use is best undertaken by the public or private sector.”
