Gladys Volunteer Fire Department held a special ceremony on August 24 as members honored Charles “Chick” Carwile, age 70.
Chick was presented a special award for more than 50 years of working in the firefighting field.
The “Landmark Milestone of 50 Years” was presented to him for 50 years of “Unselfish, Dedicated Volunteer fire service to Campbell County and the surrounding communities.”
During a conversation last Wednesday, Chick shared that being a fireman was something he had wanted to do since he was a child. “I have loved every minute of it. It’s been a passion of mine as well as a hobby,” he said. “There have been some rough nights and days, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I have seen mostly good, but a lot of tragedy and sadness too. But there’s been a lot of good!”
