Hurt town council appoints interim member

Hurt Town Council has appointed Randy Doss of Hurt as an interim council member to serve until the special election for the seat in November. Former vice mayor Norman Bivens had to resign recently due to his job relocating.

Doss says, “I’m interested in helping the town out and will decide later if I’m going to run for the seat in November.”

He knew there was an open seat on council and had a number of people in the town ask him to apply. He wrote a letter of interest in applying for the vacancy. “I thought about it and actually know two of the council members, Donnie Johnson and Collin Adams. I sent a letter to Mayor Gary Poindexter who invited me to an interview. I told council how I felt about the town and they chose me by unanimous vote to fill the vacant seat. I was sworn in last Wednesday at the clerk’s office in Chatham.”
