During the Staunton River Regional Industrial Facility Authority (SRRIFA) meeting held at Hurt Town Hall on Friday, June 28, a resolution from Altavista was presented to withdraw from the board. Altavista council had unanimously passed the resolution after much thought and discussion during a closed session on June 25 following the monthly work session. No one from Altavista attended the Friday meeting.
During a separate interview on Monday, Altavista Mayor Mike Mattox said, “We wish the board well and will be more than willing to help any way we can in the future.”
At Friday’s SRRIFA meeting, no action was taken on the resolution. The next meeting is tentatively set for October, but a special called meeting between now and then is a possibility since deciding how to operate with three members instead of four may take some time to sort out.
The board is composed of members from Hurt, Danville, and Pittsylvania as well as Altavista.
