A Hurt man has been charged with attempted second degree murder according to an arrest warrant obtained in Pittsylvania County General District Court.

Robert Joseph Cox, 44, was arrested and charged with attempting to murder Kent Eanes in Gretna on April 28, 2019.

According to the criminal complaint by Gretna police officer Kevin Bailess, he spoke with Eanes on May 1 about the events of April 28.

Eanes said Cox went to his home to pick up a vehicle.

“He advised Mr. Cox pulled a gun and fired one shot at him nearly striking him. He advised at that time he (Mr. Eanes) pulled his weapon from his waistband and began giving verbal commands,” the criminal complaint states.

Cox allegedly continued to waive his gun around stating ‘don’t shoot me,’ and, ‘don’t kill me.’

Eanes claimed Cox got back in his vehicle and fired two more shots into the air before leaving.

A bond hearing is scheduled for Cox in Pittsylvania County General District Court for 9:45 a.m. on June 10.
